Melissa Mayer Instituting Google-Like Changes at Yahoo

Rate this Entry
Not surprisingly, Yahoo's new CEO Melissa Mayer did not hesitate in making changes more in line with the way things are done at Google. The philosophy behind the changes is to put employees first, creating an employee culture that makes them feel comfortable and happy. It is quite the opposite of what had previously been happening at Yahoo with changes and job cuts galore. Maybe this is a step in the right direction for the struggling company. AllThingsD reported that the new CEO instituted an employee wide weekly meeting that started last Friday. At the meeting, the first announcement she made is that the food at the Yahoo cafe at the Silicon Valley location would be free to employees. "Just like it has been done at Google for eons.(Until now, only the coffee-bar drinks for Yahoos have been paid for by co-founders Jerry Yang and David Filo.)
And, several sources note, Mayer is also prepping major changes to the layout of the work spaces and buildings of Yahoo to make it feel more collaborative and cool, as well as upgrading swag in its stores. "

Do you think that this employee culture change will reflect positively at Yahoo and start a change for the better within the company? Or is this too little too late?
